Job Description

Our firm is partnering with a respected local community bank in Houston to recruit a Controller who values relationship banking, internal collaboration, and long-term stability. This is a highly visible, hands-on leadership role supporting a tight-knit executive team and a mission rooted in serving local businesses and members.

This opportunity is 100% in-office and located in the Galleria area.


About the Role

The Controller will lead the bank's accounting function, ensuring strong financial stewardship, regulatory compliance, and dependable reporting. This individual will play an integral role in maintaining the operational foundation of a community-focused institution-balancing accuracy, accountability, and service.

You'll work closely with the CFO and senior leadership, while mentoring a dedicated accounting team and supporting the bank's long-term goals.


Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily accounting operations including general ledger, payables, receivables, and fixed assets
  • Guide the monthly close process and ensure timely, accurate financial reporting
  • Maintain oversight of investment and treasury-related accounting activities
  • Prepare and review regulatory and external financial reports, including the Call Report
  • Support examinations and audits by providing documentation and addressing findings
  • Ensure compliance with banking regulations including BSA/AML and OFAC
  • Lead, coach, and develop accounting staff in a collaborative environment
  • Partner with leadership on budgeting, cost control, and process improvements
  • Serve as a resource for internal departments with accounting and reporting questions

What They're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline
  • CPA preferred
  • Supervisory experience within a bank or financial institution (community banking experience a plus)
  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP and bank accounting practices
  • Comfortable working hands-on while leading a small team
  • Experience with core banking or accounting systems and advanced Excel
  • Clear communicator who values teamwork, consistency, and service
